As we start the 2nd week of band camp here are a few reminders to help ensure the success of the Travis Tiger Band!
Fort Bend ISD Staff Development
This week the directors will be in FBISD Staff Development during the day therefore the Travis Band Hall will not open until 3pm to allow the staff to complete their required training. The doors will not be opened until 3pm every day this week.
The Band Handbook is available on Charms under "Handouts" as well as on the website main page.
This will cover both fall and spring semesters and lays out the expectations for our Tiger Band students and parents/guardians. You will also notice that the last page of the Band Handbook is a Student & Parent/Guardian Acknowledgement form. This is a required document for our families to submit. While you are certainly able to print out the entire handbook it is not required but the last page must be printed and submitted. If you don't have the availability to print, hard copies of the Acknowledgement Form will be on hand in the Travis Band Hall.
The largest fundraiser of the year is right around the corner and we can't make this happen without you! Please make sure you continue to check your emails about volunteer opportunities as well as the schedule as it comes together from our Travis Band Boosters.
Charms Information Update
Please take a moment to visit www.charmsoffice.com to update and check your information to make sure that we have all of the correct information for your student as well as contact information for you. While this information isn't used 99% of the time, there is the 1% where the contact information is needed to make sure we are able to be in touch with the parent or student. For first time login users, the school code is: travishsband and the password will be your students school ID #. If you have visited before then you will have created a new password.
Community Performance & General Booster Meeting
The Community Performance will be on August 16th from 7pm to 8pm on the Travis Band parking lot field. This will be an opportunity for our students to show off their hard work during Summer Band Camp and also for our students to show their family and friends what it's like to be a "Tiger Band member for the day". Not only will our students give a great performance but it will also be an interactive experience for our family and friends. Additionally, the Travis Band Boosters will be having their General Booster Meeting on that night starting at 6:30pm. This is a great opportunity for all of our parents to attend and find out how they can get involved within the Travis Tiger Band program.
Please continue to check the Charms Calendar for updated schedules and for event information as we get closer to football games and contest performances. If you would like to have the calendar linked to your smartphone there are instructions under "Import/Export" on the Charms Calendar tab. Game Day & Contest Day schedules will be posted under "Details" and will be available on your smart device should it be synced.
This Thursday we will be having rehearsal from 4pm to 5:30pm inside. Following rehearsal, students are encouraged to visit the theater on Grand Parkway to view the DCI Quarterfinals (professional marching band). Tickets can be purchased on www.fathomevents.com. While this is not a required event, it is our activity done at an extremely high level and would be good for our students to be able to see that in a large screening venue. On Friday, there will be no rehearsal and students will be attending Rock-a-Thon that evening.
As we make our way towards the beginning of the school year, I want to make sure that attention has been drawn to the band calendar to show that our schedule allows for every student to have a day off from rehearsal just about every week (depending on events that week). Please use that day off to schedule doctors appointments and extended tutorial times. In the handbook you will see what is defined as an "excused absence" vs. "unexcused absence".

As the new head director at Travis High School, I promise to effectively communicate with our students and parents as long as our students and parents work hard to effectively communicate with the band staff. This allows for us to plan accordingly for all of our students and make sure that the students have a world class experience while also creating life long relationships with the other students.
